The humpback whales dive deep each time to get below the fish ( possible herring ). Then they rush to the surface with open mouths to eat the fish as they break the surface.

The people in the boat told us to watch the seagulls who were watching from above. As  the whales approached the surface, the seagulls dove to the same spot.
